ALEX IVANOVA SCULPTURE
STRUCTURES
I was invited to work on a project in Greece where I found myself in an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city of Thessaloniki. Amidst the ruins of this decrepit building, I took some photos that inspired me to create these two medals.
During the 4 months I spent there I thought to myself that almost everyone associates Greece with the rich collections of ancient art and bountiful architecture, which have inspired countless poets, musicians, artists. But the urban ruins left behind by a modern, industrial society rarely attract the gaze of the passerby.
Here, these ruins become inspiration for a modern author.
This sculpture was created for XXXVII FIDEM Congress, Florence, Italy.
